The Romani people are neither the Romans of ancient or modern times nor are they the Romanians. These people are a group of dispersed people and are also known as Gypsies or travelers.
They are an Indo-Aryan ethnic group and from genetic findings, studies have confirmed that they have originated from a group of people from the regions of Punjab, Rajasthan, and Haryana of India.
Most of them live in Europe while some of them have migrated to Brazil and the United States.
The international Romani Day is celebrated to bring to light the issues and problems that the Romani people face.
This day was first celebrated on 8th April 1990 as it was the first ever major international meeting with representatives of the Romani people and since then 8th April has been celebrated as the World Romani DAy.
